Hamster Pet Care Tips?
Hi, i 'm getting 2 baby hamsters from petsmart in about a month, when they are old enough to leave their mother (they are a week old now) and i want to make sure i have everything ready for them when they come home.i am buying a hamster cage (complete with a wheel, water bottle, and food dish. the wheel does not have wire, so it won 't hurt their little feet.). the cage does not have wire on the bottom either, so it will not make their paws sore.i am also buying the stuff to put in the bottom of their cage (the kind that looks almost like matted cotton, and comes in different colors). i will be getting the plain kind- not colored. i 'm worried about getting something with dyes in it.i will be getting food, but i 'm unsure of the brand. can someone please tell me the best brand for them? also, do they need vitamin c in their water?i read somewhere about them needing vitamin c in their water, and i wanted to make sure before getting it, because i don 't want them to overdose.i will probably get some other toys and treats in the future, so any reccomendations on those would be helpful as well.anything i 'm forgetting to buy?i also know to be very gentle with my hamsters, and i know to be quiet since they get scared easily, and can have a heart attack if your too abrupt and loud.i have a special area for their cage, in a low traffic, semi-dark room.i know hamsters are nocternal (perfect for me, because i am a night owl). i don 't want to forget anything and end up a hamster murderer, so please please tell me any tips, anything i 'm forgetting that i need, and anything to avoid.thanks so much.rofl!!! no worries, i never even thought of doing that, but thank you for informing me, just in case for some odd reason, i decided to do that.p.s. this is not my first time taking care of hamsters, but i lost my last hamster (a robo dwarf hamster who lived for about 2 or 3 years) about 5 years ago, so i don 't remember much about hamster care.thanks everyone = )when i had my other hamster, someone told me to give him raw hamburger.i planned on giving him some, but i don 't remember if i did.is that healthy for them, as long as it doesn 't have any seasonings?and i totally forgot about the hidey house, so thank you guys for telling me about that! i 'm also thinking of buying one of those little 'living room ' and 'bedroom ' sets for them, just because they look so cute xd (Read answers)

Asap Pet Care Needed!?
Long story short, i got stuck with live food for my snake instead of frozen. so i took the rats and tried to feed them to my snake. adorably enough, the three of them eventually snuggled up and went to sleep together. so i 'm going to return them tomorrow to the pet store. i need to know basic overnight care needs of rats.i put them in our spare tank with paper shreddings and paper towels as bedding, a water dish, and a food dish. for food, i gave them carrots (which they 've been devouring), mini bell peppers, bread and bran flakes (cut all of it up, but they didn 't eat any of the other stuff). what else should i do? keep in mind i 'm not a rat lover, though i am an animal lover. so they 're not getting any fabric, i 'm not gunna play with them (though they did seem to like getting pet), and i 'm def not going to run to some 24/ h place to buy them anything. with that said, i do want to make them happy since they just escaped a very gruesome fate.umm... i 'm an animal lover because i love all animals. my arm was badly mauled by a dog when i was trying to return it to the owner (which is how we discovered the abuse and was able to find him a new home) and i never got mad at it since it was acting purely on instinct. same goes for snakes! most people don 't realize that the hatred towards snakes actually originates from religion, which is sad. snakes help farmers even today, and saved people from rat plagues back in the day. snakes need far more advocates than most animals, since they are so hated, overbred for "decoration " (few truly treat them as a beloved pet), poorly cared for (typically not just maliciously but also from complete ignorance), and purposely killed for absolutely no reason. the black king snake, which is the most common snake to be seen in my parts crossing the roads, is also the most common for people to swerve out of their way to purposely run over and kill it. few know that the bk actually ea*actually eats other harmful (venomous) snakes as well as their normal habits. around here, bk 's are released by farmers to keep their farms safe. so next time you 're enjoying delicious natural crops, it may be thanks to snakes. join the cry for banning useless snake slaughter and amateur ownership of snakes!oh, and for public information, the frozen rats i get are actually put down humanely prior to being frozen. this was definitely a point i was adamant about! not with needles either, they use a natural sleep aide in their food that 's not harmful to future animals, then put them down after they 're asleep. costs a little more, but def worth it in my opinion. What Is The Basic Pet Care My Rabbits Need?
Ola!i 've got these two little rabbits, gifted by my father today. one is a month old and the other one being of about one and a half.i don 't know the exact breeds, therefore i 'm uploading a pic too. the white one is older than the other. all i want to ask is that what food will be suitable for them how much time do they daily need to be played with? what kind of grass is suitable for them? and they sometimes stick their legs or hands out of the cage from underneath ... what kind of grass/ cloth/ foam or comfortable thing can i place there (p.s below the cage there is a tray for when they shit or anything)? and what bathing precautions do i need to take? how often should they be cleaned and bathed? what if they bite(is it dangerous?)?how many times should food be offered?are there any vaccinations?i really adore them .. they 're a part of our family now! i don 't want to leave any stone upturned to give them a satisfactory and happy life. yes, they 're my first pets.thank you so much. How Much Should I Charge For Exotic Pet Care?
I 'm interested in making some money caring for pets with specialized needs (like birds who need interaction every day and cage cleaning, fish who need chemicals checked and tanks cleaned, reptiles who need fresh food, etc.). this is a lot more work than standard dog care where you just have to check in, feed them, and let them out for a bit, especially as i 'd imagine some of the homes will take a long time for individual interaction for a bunch of animals. i know of course it won 't be too much since i 'm just a college kid, not a pro, but what range should i be requesting? Does Anyone Know Of Charity Vet Organization That Provides Free Pet Care For Long-term Unemployed, Penniless?
I know this is a ridiculous question, but just on the chance i may get a positive answer & for my pets ' sake, i must ask it.my husband & i are unemployed, cars broken down, no cash on hand or income whatsoever. when we had good jobs our pets ' health needs were taken care of immediately & usually w/ o regard to cost as long as they weren 't so sick that spending lots of money would be simply throwing it away. even later after being laid off but while receiving unemployment benefits), we did everything possible to keep pets healthy -- took them to vet as needed & provided excellent home care, diet, etc. they still get great care by us @ home, but we can 't take them to vet anymore. we only have food stamps now, so we make them "people " food using chicken-brown rice-fresh veggies, since we can 't use food stamps to buy regular pet food. they 're probably healthier for the home-cooked food, but it 's a lot of work! we had terrible fleas this year here in dallas-ft. worth tx. despite removing them from house to bathe/ treat them while simultaneously treating exterior/ interior of house for fleas/ eggs, washing all bedding, using frontline & advantage on them, & now despite a 5-day hard freeze here 2 weeks ago, they still have fleas & therefore also have those worms in their feces that pets get from eating fleas (either pin-worms or tape-worms or round worms, don 't remember which they 're called). only effective treatment is pills from vet. also, older bloodhound needs his once-a-month ($32 ea. time) cortizone shots for his hip/ arthritis probs. they all need updates on vaccinations, heartworm checks, then heartworm prevention meds. one cat has diabetes but is healthy & does just fine when she 's on her insulin (just like a person). but now we can 't afford insulin & her monthly blood-sugar level test.has anyone ever heard of a nationwide or texas group of voluntary, pro-bono veterinarians who volunteer a portion of their time to treating pets of people who are temporarily broke w/ no way to pay unless after finding, beginning jobs later on? Dog Ate Chocolate 3 To 4 Days Ago, Pet Care Provider Just Told Me.?
My 5 to 6 month old dog ate 1/ 3 of a bag of dark chocolate m &m 's a few days ago while my pet sitter was gone to work. i returned the next day and he seemed normal. friday morning, however, he was not his usual hyper self, he just wanted to lay around and would not eat. i nursed him all day, getting him to lick ice cubes to stay hydrated. he eventually started being slightly more active and began to drink on his own, but only ate a few pieces of dog food. saturday morning he was still way calmer than usual, however he was much more responsive, even took a short walk around the yard with me. while on the walk, he did his #2 business which, as i expected with him having been sick the day before, was diarrhea. he continued being alright, dragging around toys, responding when called, drinking water, and even ate a little. late at night, around 8:30 to 9 pm est he began laying around again, he 'll move his tail a few times when called but won 't come to you and he wants to stay under the couch and chairs, he has drank some but around midnight he began vomiting, and it 's white and foamy. he has also repeated the #2 diarrhea twice and won 't take an ice cube or drink when put in front of bowl. i called and woke my pet care provider at which point they confessed to having discovered m &m 's, dark chocolate kind, scattered about their floor upon returning from the store on the day before i picked him up. i was told that there were less than half of the 1.69 package left out on a table that he had gotten hold of. it was not mentioned to me, they said, because it had happened in the morning time while they were off at work and they observed him all day and there was no change in his behavior. his symptoms began over 2 whole days after consumption. will he pull through it or is it too late? Does Anyone Own An Old-style Siamese? Or Believe In All-natural Pet Care?
I really like to plan ahead-this won 't be for at least a couple years, but i plan on getting two kittens when we live in a bigger place. i want to get the healthiest, longest lived ones possible with the lowest risk of fip (i also have two healthy 16 year old god-knows-what cats) and all research points to old-style (i.e. applehead) lynx point siamese. from what i understand the old style are much healthier than wedge-heads and lynx points are even better because they also have mongrel-cat blood. they also have a pretty low risk of fip. please tell me about your experiance, and feel free to reccomend breeders. i am really into pet health-i do all organic and grain-free whenever possible and may consider raw for the new kitties, but my older ones can 't handle it (i tried) i also keep cats inside and go vaccine-free for all my indoor pets after initial baby shots. i won 't declaw (my current ones are spayed/ declawed but i was three and didn 't get a vote) i also own an intact female 8 lb chihuahua/ pomeranian mix and a spayed 7 year old ferret. i don 't believe in spaying unless specifically medically indicated because they hurt my tigger 's throat when she was spayed and i 've done research indicating the risks of spaying are greater than going intact, providing you 're responsible enough to prevent pregnancy. sorry to make this so long, but just being specific in case there are special vaccine considerations or dietary specifications with siamese, or in case siamese should be spayed for some reason. thanksthey will both be female and our reasons for wanting them are that we have seen how good kittens can be for older cats, and our puppy seems to need a friend too, but tigger and tabitha aren 't interested and we can 't really handle more than one dog. she loves cats though. of course we have more than enough love to go around as well (Read answers)

What Are Some Good Courses In Pet Care That Would Help Me Get A Job?
I want to get a job in pet care but in something more interactive as opposed to a general pet shop, like actually caring for animals somewhere. sounds dumb, i know but i really need a course or two that 's not too expensive and can be taken anywhere in the world or england. if you have a website that 's proved useful, then i 'd appreciate a link to it along with any other reccomendations, advice, tips, and suggestions. i 've kept pets in the past and have even bred some like guinea pigs and birds. i know there 's a heck of a lot more involved than that should i want to get a job in that area but i do, so thanks a million in advance for your help!! ;-) (Read answers)
